Jennifer Love Hewitt’s in the Christmas Spirit

Jennifer Love Hewitt's Christmas Cards

This photo featuring Jennifer Love Hewitt and Garfield would make a cute Christmas cards design for the Ghost Whisperer starlet.

I have to admit that come Friday night at 8pm I am ready to turn on the TV to watch Ghost Whisperer. I am hooked! I was really disappointed when they killed off Melinda’s husband, Jim Clancy, in the show. He is still on the show supposedly in someone else’s body. Apparently, the producers are developing the concept that love transcends death. Shown in this way the concept seems ridiculous but what can be expected from a series that deals with trying to cross over dead souls into the light. Friday night is a chill night for me after a busy week of work reviewing Christmas cards, so Ghost Whisperer is the perfect fantasy to watch.

Jennifer Love Hewitt plays Melinda Gordon, who sees and speaks with spirits that are lingering in this world until their issues are resolved. She goes to great lengths to help them cross over. I don’t doubt the existence of this type of phenomena, but some of her encounters are a bit far fetched…but entertaining nonetheless.

Jennifer herself has celebrated some good and bad Christmas seasons lately. In 2007, she served dinners at a homeless shelter with her fiancé, Ross McCall. In 2008, Ross broke the engagement on Christmas Eve (nice guy, huh?). Some so-called friends claim that Jennifer wears her emotions on her sleeve, which is similar to the character she plays on Ghost Whisperer. In the series, she can come to tears at the drop of a hat. Ross supposedly had a hard time dealing with her emotions, so I guess that is Jennifer’s true nature and not an act.

Jennifer has quickly rebounded from any disappointment she may have suffered because of the breakup. She was happily dating her co-star, Jamie Kennedy, but the ended their relationship this past March. She has had numerous relationships prior to Ross McCall that did not work out. Jamie plays Eli James on the show; Eli can’t see spirits but can hear them.

I came across some images that would really make great Christmas cards for Jennifer, but my favorite is this one with her and Garfield. Garfield is fantastic…what a haughty attitude! Jennifer played his vet, Doctor Liz, in Garfield: The Movie. Even though it is a little outdated and obviously taken during warmer weather, it is really a joyful picture that would be wonderful as a Christmas card. Her smile is radiant, her dress is red, and who doesn’t love Garfield? Well…maybe someone hiding in a cave in Afghanistan or Pakistan may object, but most of us love the character.

Jennifer has a genuine love of animals and says she trained her Chihuahua, Mia, to do the Odie dance when she wants to eat. Apparently, Mia does the dance well because she is 13 lbs, a little heavy for a standard-sized Chihuahua.

Jennifer Love Hewitt seems to be a wholesome person, although perhaps a little compulsive. When asked in an interview what she was good at, her response was, “I’m a great house cleaner. Seriously, I am so good at cleaning. It’s unbelievable. I’m a neat freak and I just love it.” She also said she loves going to the cleaners…not sure what that is about.

She started out in show business at a young age. At the age of three, she was singing at livestock shows. She had tap dancing and ballet under her belt by the age of five. At ten she and her mother moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in both acting and singing. She became a young star after landing the role of Sarah Reeves on the popular TV show Party of Five.

Jennifer is a beautiful woman. She has had media attention from TMZ because of a picture in a bathing suit taken at a poor angle. The media is obsessed with body appearance. If someone in the public eye has the nerve to don a bathing suit, they can rely on the paparazzi to be close by to take pictures of anything they consider a body flaw. They really should consider the influence they have on the body image of the teens that view their programs or read their tabloids. An unrealistic body image can result in Anorexia or Bulimia.

Searching for Jon Bon Jovi’s Christmas Cards

Jon Bon Jovi's Christmas cards

Bon Jovi's first ever recorded song was on a Star Wars Christmas album. The sentiments of the song, entitled "R2D2 We Wish you a Merry Christmas," is echoed in this Bon Jovi Christmas card.

I am on the hunt for Jon Bon Jovi’s Christmas cards! I admit I am mildly obsessed with Jon Bon Jovi, though I’m sure the people who know me best would disagree with that statement. They would probably refer to me as more of a stalker. I don’t know why they would say that. I mean yes, I have been to more Bon Jovi concerts than I can remember (I stopped counting at 13) and yes, I do know a lot about the man and the band, but that’s just because I am well read and keep up to date on pop culture. I do know little known facts about the man; just a little trivia that the average person who is just a casual fan of his music might know. For instance, I know that Robert Hegyes, most known for his role as Epstein on the TV show Welcome Back Kotter, is his cousin and that Jon’s mother was a Playboy bunny. But I know nothing about how he spends his holidays or what kinds of Christmas cards he sends to family and friends.

So I searched the internet to try and find some reference…some tidbit on Jon Bon Jovi’s Christmas cards. Does he send them? Does he do a family portrait? Is it just the kids or are he and his wife Dorothea also featured on the cover? I’m dying to know but alas… nothing! Not surprising as Jon Bon Jovi is notoriously private about his personal life and has done what I think is a fantastic job of keeping his kids out of the public eye.

But still I thought I would find something! I mean I know he celebrates Christmas. One of his very first jobs was making Christmas decorations! He has recorded numerous Christmas songs. You can hear him on the radio each December singing “Please Come Home for Christmas” and “I Wish Every Day Could be Like Christmas.” Funny though, you never hear the 1980 song, “R2-D2 We Wish you a Merry Christmas,” which was featured on the Star Wars album, “Christmas in the Stars” by a then unknown John Francis Bongiovi (told you I knew some obscure Jovi trivia).

Jon has also consistently hosted or played at numerous Christmas benefit concerts over the years. Most of them he’s played in his home state of New Jersey, like last year’s Hope Concert IV, which benefited the Parker Family Health Center in Red Bank.

So you see, Jon has many ties to Christmas. I will continue my search for the elusive Bon Jovi family Christmas cards. Maybe some other Bon Jovi stalker, er, fan is selling one on eBay!

Holiday Cards from a Deserving Hollywood Diva

Tori Spelling, husband Dean McDermott, and their two kids, Liam and Stella.

The perfect holiday cards photo for Tori Spelling and family. While Spelling is Jewish, her hubby, Dean McDermott, is not...hence the Christmas tree in the background.

This lovely family picture depicts Tori Spelling and her husband Dean McDermott with their two children, Liam and Stella. This would be the perfect picture for Tori to use for her Celebrity holiday cards. The big white bow on the Christmas tree brings your focus to Tori’s brilliant smile. The children look a little confused and Dean is smiling to round out the cozy family. It makes you think that Tori and Dean are like every other young couple. Not! They are the stars of Tori and Dean: Home Sweet Hollywood on Oxygen, and their life is anything but ordinary.

We know that Tori Spelling was born to Aaron and Candy Spelling on May 16, 1973. Her father was a famous executive producer of several hit shows, including Fantasy Island and The Love Boat. Tori grew up in the largest single family home in California. The mansion had 100 rooms…and let’s just says she was the “princess” in this castle. Her father had her taking acting lessons at age six. This seems to give new meaning to born with the silver spoon in her mouth. Her parents must have had a huge holiday cards list, and wouldn’t we have loved to receive a celebrity holiday card from Aaron Spelling back in the day.

Tori had several guest appearances on television shows before landing the role of Donna Martin on Beverly Hills 90210. Many people assumed that she was chosen because her father was the executive producer, but let’s face it, she got the role because she knew how to be Donna Martin. Give the girl credit for getting a job and sticking with it, because I’m sure her allowance would have been enough for her to live a Paris Hilton life style. Tori continued to work even after the show finished. She went on to act in several made-for-TV movies and several independent film productions before landing in the reality show genre.

Tori Spelling is the girl you would love to hate. She had it all – a beautiful home, money, fame, and good looks…the perfect life. Not so fast. She never believed she was attractive. Can we think about her comparing herself to her mother and know why she would feel a little insecure. When she landed the role on Beverly Hills 90210 the press gave her grief constantly about getting the role only through nepotism. I sooo want to hate her, but I just can’t bring myself to dislike her no matter how hard I try. That is because she has something else that endears her (unlike Paris Hilton) to others. She has grit and a sense of humor. So I find myself rooting for her around every corner. When she sells her jewelry line, I wish her success. When she wrote her two books, I wished her best sellers. When she married the wrong man and fell in love with someone else, I wished her happiness. When she sends her holiday cards I wish her a long list of friends.

It gives me pleasure to see that the golden girl has grown into an amusingly clever business woman who loves nice things and makes her own baby food. No apologies, no excuses, and no artifice. She is who she appears to be and makes no excuses for it, but lives her life in the limelight with a smile and a sense of humor. You go girl!

Halle Berry’s Christmas Cookie Thief

Halle Berry pictured with her mom

Halle Berry pictured with her mom on the red carpet. According to Halle, she was devasted after walking in on her mom eating the cookies she left out for Santa.

Every Christmas card has an easily-identified, seasonal scene. Picture a living room: Christmas tree in the corner, stockings on the fireplace mantle, a plate of cookies on the table, perhaps with a note for one Mr. S. Claus. Look a little closer, toward the corner of the picture. You’ll see someone eating those cookies. And if you happen to be Halle Berry, that someone is your own mother!

As she once told the BBC, Halle discovered the true identity of Santa Claus when she caught her mother eating the plate of cookies she’d baked for the jolly old elf one Christmas Eve as a child. Halle declares that she had a good three years of Santa ahead of her before observing the cold, hard truth.

While we’re discussing Halle’s mother, can we just talk about the name she gave her kid? “Halle Berry” sounds a lot like “holly berry,” doesn’t it? And anyone who’s walked through a retail store between October and January knows that holly berries are a sure sign of the Christmas season. You would think that after going through the trouble of giving your daughter a pretty and festive name, you’d try extra hard not to put a damper on her Christmas memories! Put down the cookie, Halle Berry’s mom!

In all seriousness, it doesn’t appear that this childhood trauma ruined Halle’s adulthood in the least. She is an Academy Award-winning actress who has been smooched by cutie Adrien Brody on the Oscar stage, co-starred with the yummy Hugh Jackman in three X-Men movies, and is currently dating French-Canadian model Gabriel Aubry.* She seems content in her new role as mother to daughter Nahla, and to top it off, I hear that Oprah Winfrey is the godmother. Not a bad life!

There’s no doubt that Halle will do her best to make her child’s holidays especially magical. Just don’t bring up Santa’s cookies if you happen to see her on the street.

*Update: It was reported on April 30th that Halle and Gabriel separated; Halle’s representative confirmed the report several days later.
